Problem
An almost entirely volunteer-led team have, over ten years, created the fourth largest TEDx event in the world behind Sydney, Boston and Washington; with over 1m views of their talks online.  They sought an Event Director to collate all areas of the annual live event for over 1000 people, to work closely with the Curator and whole team to streamline and professionalise the delivery of the area’s largest ideas Festival.

Solution
Event Director for 8th and 9th annual TEDxExeter event, attended by over 1000 people. Ensuring focused commitment  to TED rules and guidelines as a global brand, as well as commitment to sustainability and quality; to deliver a high-impact, wide-reaching event with a reputation for selling out in under fifteen minutes.  Responsible for developing and managing key community partnerships, developing effective partnerships with key stakeholders and suppliers, generating and negotiating sponsorship packages with local and national companies and maintaining excellent relationships.  Supporting multiple platforms for livestreaming to a worldwide audience of 35,000 and leading on all digital elements for the TEDCircles virtual event programme in response to COVID19 restrictions.  Implementing tools, templates and processes specifically designed for a remote, volunteer team to enable the powerful work of TEDxExeter to continue in an achievable way year on year.

Problem
Requirement for a Project Manager to lead the design, build and delivery of a two-week virtual Government Data Science Festival from a grassroots level; meeting specific national objectives around the theme of Data Science for Public Good.

Solution
Six-month contract fully integrated with the Data Science Campus team.  Working with them to devise an overarching theme, sub-themes and desired event legacy relevant to the government and UK public sector data science community and colleagues in the academic sector. Curation of a fulsome and varied two-week programme of events in keeping with the festival values and ethos; to include keynotes, panel discussions, daily social spaces, a learning programme and a hackathon that produced a scheme of work to be used by the upcoming intake of Data Scientists.  Development of brand and design, plus full project and budget management. Procurement of bespoke event website and registration platform. Led the project team in all areas of Comms, Production, Volunteer recruitment & management and Speaker management.  The project culminated in the creation of the ManiFESTo - the outcome of a series of lively discussions and debates across the Festival on issues that matter to the data science community.  This work provided a platform for continued dialogue and a programme of activity to enable ongoing exchange, development and growth for the UK public sector data science capability.

SOUTH WEST ACADEMIC HEALTH SCIENCE NETWORK

South West Academic Health Science Network

Problem
The SW AHSN works to transform the health and patient experience of people in South West England by accelerating the spread and adoption of innovation and quality improvement.  Requirement for project lead, additional support and strategy development across departments.

Solution
Led and supported on multiple events; including the filming and concurrent livestream of a series of live talks to a present audience as well as Care Homes across the South West and a five-day conference with international facilitators and delegate accommodation across nine venues.  Collaborated at Associate Director level with Royal Cornwall Hospital and fifty health technology innovators to design and deliver a one-day interactive Expo, to include event design, management of venue, photographer and contracted production team to film and livestream.

Problem
An unprecedented increase in demand for PPE face shields at the start of the COVID19 Pandemic.  Requirement for strategic project support in managing makers, designers and technical experts to look at open source design alongside local clinical teams, to create face shields that fully met their needs.

Solution
Sourcing available and safe assembly sites during the first full country lockdown, coordinating volunteers as well as supporting the assembly and delivery of face shields across the region.  Liaised with multiple suppliers, venues, designers, stakeholders and volunteers; employing project management skills and experience to devise a multi-faceted working project plan.  Included provision of relevant Risk Assessments, supplier management, sourcing and setting up suitable production sites, volunteer rotas and briefing.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY POWER PANEL EVENT

Six Degrees Network

Problem
A female-only network in early stages of development, seeking strategic event support to design and deliver their planned biggest event to date.

Solution
Project managed the logistics for this event aiming to shine a light on the importance of equity in society, in honour of International Women’s Day.  Sourced financially viable suppliers and venues, allowing the community leads to curate a diverse and equipped panel.  Implemented project management and budget templates, supported on the design of sponsorship packages and planned and executed the set-up and strike of a the full event including production and recording in 24 hours.
